Getaway in Charlevoix
So much natural beauty to discover
Whether through colorful forests or snow-capped mountains, Charlevoix is an ideal destination for a fall or winter getaway. Located about a hundred kilometers from Quebec City, the region is perfect for a romantic getaway, with friends or family. But above all, it is full of nice places to visit and natural wonders to explore, no matter what season you visit.
LET YOURSELF BE CARRIED BY THE CURRENTS OF THE ST. LAWRENCE
The first contact with the region is usually made at the exit of Côte-de-Beaupré. Sandwiched between the river and the mountains, the road already offers magnificent panoramas. To do something different from a car trip, consider taking the Train de Charlevoix, operating this year until December 8, 2024. The 125 km journey follows the St. Lawrence River from Quebec City (Montmorency Falls) to La Malbaie. Stops are also possible in Petite-Rivière-Saint-François, Baie-Saint-Paul, Les Éboulements and Saint-Irénée.
A GOURMET AND CULTURAL DESTINATION OF CHOICE!
Throughout the Charlevoix region, there are many gourmet destinations. Cheese factories, dairies, meat factories, chocolate factories, pastries: there are plenty of tasty discoveries to be made! For maximum discoveries, take the Route des Saveurs, an agritourism circuit that presents the various Charlevoix specialties.
For a refined and warm meal, the various restaurants promote local gastronomic products. If you pass through Baie-Saint-Paul, consider visiting the museums and art galleries. In low season, check the opening hours of the establishments before going there.
A REGION MADE FOR MOVING!
It's not just in summer that outdoor and sports activities are plentiful in Charlevoix. Of course, the region's mountain landscape makes it a prime destination for downhill skiing. At Mont Grands Fonds in La Malbaie and Massif de Petite-Rivière-Saint-François, snow is abundant throughout the winter and the climate is just pleasant enough for winter sports. This is a much-appreciated feature offered by the local microclimate.
While the Massif de Charlevoix stands out for its exceptional ski slopes, 54 in number, which offer a vertical drop of 770 meters, and its unique sledding experience, the place is just as enchanting before the arrival of snow and cold. The mountain offers hiking and mountain biking trails. Gondola rides are also possible.
With its unique geography, the Charlevoix territory is occupied by two national parks: the Grands-Jardins National Park and the Hautes-Gorges-de-la-Rivière-Malbaie National Park. Both places are exceptional playgrounds, no matter the time of year.
The first offers, during the winter, 22 km of trails that can be used for walking, Nordic skiing or snowshoeing. Set up in the heart of the Laurentian Plateau, they offer a unique incursion into the Nordic territory. During the walk, pay attention. Several animal species live in this outdoor habitat. Depending on the weather conditions, rock climbing is usually open until November.
As for the Hautes-Gorges-de-la-Rivière-Malbaie National Park, it is another destination of choice for practicing winter activities, even with the family! From the Draveur service center, it is possible to indulge in snowshoeing, Nordic skiing, ski-snowshoeing, cross-country skiing and fat biking. A skating rink and slides are also set up. For high-level climbers, it is possible to climb icy routes.
